What hyper pigmentation is?
Hyper pigmentation is a disorder of the skin color characterized with dark areas on the skin, and is caused by increased amount of melanin, the dark pigment in the skin. Pregnancy, exposure to sunlight, certain diseases, trauma or age, can affect melanin and thus non-aesthetic dark spots on the skin appear. They can arise from external or internal causes. External dark stops can be caused by exposure to sunlight and chemicals, while internal ones can be caused by inherited genes. People with dark skin are more likely to develop this disorder.
Freckles or elderly spots and stains are caused by ultraviolet sun rays that damage the melanin which result in temporary or permanent discoloration. These spots may appear on the face or hands, and other body parts that are exposed to the sun. The scars from trauma or surgery can cause discoloration of the skin, even when if problem disappears, dark spots remain.
Melasma is hyper pigmentation of the skin that occurs during pregnancy. Dark spots usually appear on the nose and cheeks. This disorder often resolves on its own after pregnancy and does not cause bigger problems.
